Peaches

So, a few years ago, my mom bought a ton of peaches from the local Farmer's Market in Dallas. She and I spent a half day cutting them all up, pouring sugar on them, and storing them in plastic baggies, which we then froze. We ate delicious peaches that whole winter season.

Well, she found another peach farm in Weatherford, bought several bushels of peaches, and came over today. We spent all morning cutting up peaches to freeze. She brought me a half bushel of peaches - anyone have any idea how much a half bushel is? I didn't. We counted the peach pits after we were all through, and there were 98 of them!!! That is a lot of peaches! But SOO worth it. If you have never cut up peaches to freeze for the winter, you really should give it a try - they are fantastic! Here is how you do it : For every 4 cups of peaches you have cut up, add 1/2 cup sugar, and 3/4tsp Fruit Fresh. Mix it up in a bowl, and then spoon into 1 quart ziploc bags, and freeze. It is that simple. You will not regret the work!

Second Chances

Well, here you have it. I am giving the blog idea a second go. I figure since we now have a child I may actually have something to write about. So a quick update, Nick and I finally finished school in December, so we feel like life has actually begun again. We now have a little boy named Samuel, who was born on Cinco de Mayo, or the National Day of Prayer for 2011, whichever you would prefer to remember. Guess we have an easy theme for all future birthday parties - margaritas, queso, and pinatas, anyone?

Neophyte

So after much consideration, I have given into the world of blogging. I enjoy reading my friends' blogs so much, and I decided to join in on the fun. The disparity here, however, is that all of my friends have interesting things to write about : babies, buying houses, mission trips, church activities, etc, because they all have alot of stuff going on!! Nick and I, on the other hand, sit at a desk for probably 12-16 hours a day. Short of blogging about highly uninteresting phenomena such as the rate of diffusion of anesthetic gases, their solubility in blood plasma, etc, I am going to have to really dig deep to find topics of interest for a blog, which perhaps has been my main obstacle to actually starting one.

I have nearly felt like you earn the right to blog when you have kids, or when you just have a crazy fun personality (like say, Annie Hunt!) and just have funny stories all the time. No such luck here :) So, my blogs will either have to be few and far between, because that is when we actually do fun things, or else, it will have to be random musings on life in general. Either way, here we are, the Benbrook Bairds. I figured that title had enough cheese to be blog-worthy :)
